Even though it is very hard to ride along the Sichuan-Tibet highway, the amazing wonderful sceneries still fascinated lots of enthusiastic tourists every year. People say that they care not only the breathtaking sceneries in Tibet, but also the unforgettable experience on the way. Don't you agree?
There are two ways to ride a bicycle along Sichuan-Tibet Highway to Tibet. They are the southern route of Sichuan-Tibet Highway and the northern route of Sichuan-Tibet Highway. It is approximately 150 kilometers far from Chengdu to Ya An. It is the first day to adapt ourselves on the way to the highest plateau of the world. Chengdu is characteristic of the flat road as it is located in Sichuan Plain area. Then it is the rough road from Qyonglai to Ya An. It is reasonable to have breakfast in Chengdu, have lunch in Qyonglai and have dinner in Ya An. There are many hotels in Ya An city, and the facilities are good. You can easily find any hotels to spend a night in Ya An. But it is better to book a hotel before your tour starts. Better safe than sorry.
It is approximately 90 kilometers far from Ya An to Xingou. We will find the ancient tea-horse road along the Qingyi River upstream and take a rest there. It is about 40 kilometers from Ya An to Tianquan County. It is almost the rough road today. We kindly suggest you to have breakfast in Ya An, have lunch in Tianquan, and have dinner in Xingou. Most of the hostels in Xingou cost about 100 RMB per person.
It is approximately 52 kilometers far from Xingou to Luding. Erkang Mountain is a dangerous mountain pass along Sichuan-Tibet Highway. Many natural disasters happened frequently here, such as the rainstorm, the fog, and debris flow, etc. Every tourist is highly suggested to pay attention to your safe during the journey. It is about 18 kilometers long from Xingou to the tunnel of the Erlang Mountain, which the tunnel of Erlang Mountain is approximately 4.176 kilometers long. It is better to open your flashlight and the taillight in the tunnel. There is a deceleration strip after passing through Erlang Mountain.
In general, if you leave Xingou at 8 am, you may reach Luding at 3 pm around. You could find your hotel/hostel and take a rest there. Most of the hostels cost 100 RMB per person. They provide the free shower, free internet, and free washing machine. We kindly suggest you to have breakfast in Xingou, and have lunch/dinner in Luding.
