Ride a Bicycle along Yunnan – Tibet Highway – The Last Part

Please read the previous one: Ride a Bicycle along Yunnan – Tibet Highway – The 5th Part. This is the last part of the itinerary of riding a bicycle along Yunnan-Tibet Highway. We will finally reach Lhasa City on the 27th Day.

Ride a Bicycle along Yunnan – Tibet Highway – The Last Part

D23 Lulang – Sejila Mountain Pass (4564m) – Nyingchi (3043m) – Bayi Town (2992m)

The way to Sejila Mountain is asphalt road. There are many up slopes after passing Sejila Mountain. You may have a chance to view Lulang Forest Sea on the way to Sejila Mountain Pass. There is a wooden shed on one roadside. It sells the prayer flags and the butter tea in the tourism season. After passing Sejila Mountain Pass it is down slope to Nyingchi Prefecture in Tibet. There is a gentle slope downward to Bayi Town and the road condition is fine. The Giant Cypress Forest is located about 8 kilometers far from Bayi Town on the right roadside. Giant Cypress Forest is praised as "king of the giant cypresses in the world". There are hundreds of old giant cypress, which some of them have a history of more than 1000 years in the Giant Cypress Natural Resort.

Bayi Town may be the busiest city you may find along Yunnan – Tibet Highway. The accommodation condition and the food are both fine in Bayi Town. You could also buy some components and bicycle tires here.

D24 Bayi Town – Nixi – Baipa Town – Ba River Town – Kongpu Gyangda County (3429m)

It is approximately 133 kilometers far from Bayi Town to Kongpu Gyangda County. We need to ride a bicycle along the Niyang River from Bayi Town to Baipa Town. It is up slope but the road condition is fine. Ba River Town is about 21 kilometers far from Baipa Town and it is the entrance of the Baksumtso Lake. It is about 35 kilometers far to Baksumtso Lake from Ba River Town. There is a little up slope close to Kongpu Gyangda County in Tibet.

D25 Kongpu Gyangda County – Jinda (3663m) – Gyaxing (3903m) – Songdo (4290m)

It is approximately 100 kilometers far from Kongpu Gyangda County to Songdo County. It is asphalt road. You may have lunch in Gyaxing town. Gyaxing Town is about 20 kilometers far from Jinda. Songdo is about 38 kilometers far from Gyaxing Town. There are some restaurants and hostels on both sides of G318 National Highway in Songdo. Besides, there is a hot spring in front of Songdo Village.

D26 Songdo – Mila Mountain Pass (5013m) – Rido (4380m) – Tashigang (3963m) – Mozhu Gongkya County (3798m)

It is about 112 kilometers far from Songdo to Mozhu Gongkya County. Mila Mountain Pass is the highest mountain pass along Sichuan-Tibet Highway. It is 5013 meters high. Then we need to ride a bicycle downward to Tashigang. And then ride along the level road to Mozhu Gongkya County in Tibet. Tsikongti Monastery of Mozhu Gongkya County is the largest celestial burial platform in Tibet. It seems to be closed to tourists as of now.

D27 Mozhu Gongkya County – Lhasa

It is approximately 60 kilometers far from Mozhu Gongkya County to Lhasa City. It is asphalt road.
