Nyingchi Tour – Attractions at Baksumtso Lake

Baksumtso Lake

Baksumtso Lake is also named Cuogao Lake which means "green water" in Tibetan Language. The altitude of the surface of Baksumtso Lake is over 3700 meters. The area of Baksumtso Lake is over 6000 mu. Baksumtso Lake is a holy lake and holy place of Red Sect of Tibetan Buddhism. At Baksumtso Lake, there are four main attractions. They are Primitive Museum, Tashi Island, Jieba Village and snow mountain. When visit Baksumtso Lake in Nyingchi Tour, you should not miss these attractions.

Nyingchi Tour – Primitive Museum at Baksumtso Lake

Different from other holy lakes in Tibet, the Baksumtso Lake is completely covered by green and flourishing virgin forest. The same as its name, the color of Baksumtso Lake is light pure green which is similar with jade. The water in Baksumtso Lake is so limpid that you can see groups of fishes about two or three meters under the water surface. Around the Baksumtso Lake, there are green mountains. The peaks of these mountains are covered by snow around the year. The snow mountain on bank of Baksumtso Lake and water surface set off each other and form grand scenery. The secluded scene of Baksumtso Lake is rarely seen since few people there.

Nyingchi Tour – Tashi Island in Baksumtso Lake

You can take raft to the Tashi Island in center of Baksumtso Lake (the raft is made up of driftwood. The boatman ferries people back and forth by dragging a wire rope connecting bank of Baksumtso Lake and Tashi Island). On Tashi Island, there are flying prayer flags, exquisite Cuozong Gongba Monastery (means castle in the lake) which belongs to Nyingma Sect of Tibetan Buddhism, with statue of Padmasambhava enshrined in the monastery. Until now, the Cuozong Gongba Monastery has over 1500 years' history. There are numberless legends about the monastery. To circumambulate the Tashi Island clockwise, you can see the hoof print which left by the horse of Gesar King, the print left by sword on rock, former platform for water burial, the "Word Tree" with naturally formed Tibetan words on leaves, the holy spring where Padmasambhava ever washed face, etc. It is indeed that you will see magical things for each step.

Nyingchi Tour – Jieba Village at Baksumtso Lake

Even though you ever went to Lhasa and Mt. Everest, you will be surprised when you have Nyingchi tour. The unsophisticated and antique human landscapes are highlights of Baksumtso Lake as well. Tibetans who are living in Jiangda County, Kongpo District are named "Kongpo People" by other Tibetans. They have unique clothes, distinctive architectures, different festivals and own language. When you wander in Jieba Village, Cuoguo Village, Zhala Village and other original and unsophisticated villages, you will see simile faces of Kongpo People everywhere.

Nyingchi Tour – Snow Mountain at Baksumtso Lake

Among flourishing flowers and green trees, there are villas as quiet as private gardens. When you visit Baksumtso Lake in Nyingchi tour, you will see the beautiful scenery of snow mountain just wake up in the morning if you choose the room facing with mountains. That's very nice.
