Pokhara was originally a small village acted as the inhabitance of Niva people and Gulon people. The local people here was orginally made their living on farming. Tourists started to rush to Pokhara after this small village was served with paved road in 1970.

It is said that Pokhara was firstly discovered by a Swiss explorer in 1952. A group of western people came here around 1970. They were deeply attracted by the beautiful natural landscapes and relaxing pace of life, and they finally stopped here for a long time. Since then, Pokhara develops rapidly. It has developed into a modern famous holiday resort since 1980. Hundreds of hotels, restaurants, bars and stores were sprung up at Pokhara. Today, Pokhara is praised as the Thamel (a prosperous district in Kathmandu) beside the Lake.
