Kathmandu to Lhasa Tours – Climate of Kathmandu

As a professional Tibet tour operator, Tibet Tour would like to make a brief introduction about the climate of Kathmandu for tourists planning to make choice among Kathmandu to Lhasa tours.

The climate of Nepal is greatly influenced by the southern subtropical monsoon. There are three obvious seasons – the hot season between April and June, the rainy season between July and October, and the cold season between November and March of the next year. The topography of Nepal is mainly composed of high mountains and hills with obvious altitude difference. Mt. Everest, located in the north of Nepal, is the highest peak above the sea level with an elevation of more than 8000 meters is while the southern valley of Nepal only enjoys an altitude around 70 meters. Hence, the climate varies in Nepal in different regions.

Generally, it is cold in the high mountains in the high mountains in Northern Nepal all year around. The mountains and valleys in middle Nepal enjoy a mild climate while the southern Nepal plain enjoys hot climate all year around. The extremely low temperature of the northern mountains reaches -40? while the extremely high temperature of the southern plain reaches 45?. Regarding the average annual precipitation, the southern Nepal enjoys 2300 mm, the middle Nepal enjoys 1500 mm and the northern Nepal enjoys 500-600 mm. 90 percent of the precipitation falls during the rainy season.

It is reported that the period between October and November is the best season to visit Kathmandu, Nepal since the climate would be relatively pleasant. It is dry and there is always a high visibility during this period. Tourists planning to make choice among the Kathmandu to Lhasa tours should collect some accurate information about the local weather since there might be a temperature difference of more than 10? between difference regions. For instance, the highest temperature of Kathmandu is 25? while the lowest temperature is about 10? in October.

The period between December and March in Kathmandu is characterized by dry and cold. Though there are a lot of sunny days, the visibility is relatively lower. The daytime is relatively shorter than the nighttime, especially between December and January. It is always cold and it might snow. The highest temperature in Kathmandu is about 20? while the lowest temperature reaches 5? during this period.

April and May are the hottest months of Nepal. The temperature in Kathmandu is between 15-30?. The extremely high temperature in the mountains might reach 38?. June and September is the rainy season of Nepal. The visibility is the lowest of a year. Tourists planning to join the Kathmandu to Nepal tours are not advised to visit Nepal during this period.
