Tibet Airlines will Open the Lhasa-Chongqing-Shanghai Air Line in August

It is reported that Tibet Airlines will open the Lhasa-Chongqing-Shanghai new air line in August. Tibet Airlines is the first air transportation enterprise operates the airport on the plateau area.

Tibet Airlines has three planes and more than 10 air lines so far according to the principals of the enterprise. The planes have achieved 8588 flying safety hours, 5011 lift-off and landing since the past year. More than 375,000 passengers got to their destination safely after the planes were put into operation.

One of the most important traditional festivals for Tibetans – Shoton Festival will be celebrated on August 17th 2012. A large number of tourists and pilgrims both at home and abroad would rush to Lhasa to enjoy the hilarious festival atmosphere. Shoton Festival is always collected into the Tibet tour packages in summer and it might be the most famous Tibetan festival among foreign tourists.

The celebration period of Shoton Festival is regarded as the top peak season of Tibet tour. The demand of the tourism resources, including the accommodation and transportation always greatly exceeds the supply during this period. The air and train tickets to and from Tibet are also short in supply in August. To meet the demand of tourists, Tibet Airlines decided to open a new airline from Shanghai to Lhasa via Chongqing after their 4th plane back from Germany.

So far, the domestic direct flights to Lhasa are only available in Chengdu, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chongqing and Beijing. There is only one international flight in Tibet Autonomous Region – the direct flight between Lhasa and Kathmandu. Hence, the foreign tourists could only fly to Lhasa via one of the above cities. Shanghai and Beijing are two most popular entrance cities among oversea tourists. The operation of the new air line would greatly relieve the tension of the air tickets to Lhasa. Tourists planning a Tibet tour could enter into Tibet by the plane of Tibet Airlines from Shanghai or Chongqing.
