The passenger throughout of Nyingchi Airport breaks through 0.2 million after the airbus No.A319 landed in Nyingchi Airport safely on Nov.13th, 2012. It is really a significant breakthrough in the operation and development of Nyingchi Airport.

Nyingchi Airport was put into operation since September 2006. There were only two flights in the early period and there are 7 flights on the busiest days currently. The direct flights between Nyingchi and Chengdu, Chongqing and Lhasa have been opened. Nyingchi Airport provides one more choice for tourists planning a Tibet tour from Chengdu and Chongqing. In 2011, the passenger throughout of Nyingchi Airport achieved 0.144 million and it has far surpassed the planned saturation capacity. Most of the flights in Nyingchi Airport could only be operated in the morning due to the special local geographical and climate condition.

To meet the demand of tourists, the expansion project of Nyingchi Airport was started in April 2012. It is reported that the expansion project will last for one and a half year. The passenger throughout will be increased to 0.7 million from 0.12 million after the expansion project is completed. In the same time, the airport terminal will be expanded to 13500 square meters from 3200 square meters.

According to the administration office of Nyingchi Airport, it will greatly relieve the pressure of transportation between Tibet and other domestic regions. As we all known, it is a little bit difficult to get a train/air ticket to Tibet during the peak season of Tibet tour, especially in July and August. Tourists planning a Tibet tour could choose to fly to Nyingchi first and start the Tibet tour from Nyingchi after the expansion of Nyingchi Airport completed.

Tourists planning to land on Tibet at Nyingchi Airport should note that the flight between Chengdu and Nyingchi would be available on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. The direct flight between Nyingchi and Chongqing would be available on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.

The direct flight between Nyingchi and Lhasa would be available on Monday and Thursday.
