Lhasa Received about 5 Million Tourists in the First 8 Months of 2012

It is reported that Lhasa tourism develops rapidly in 2012. A large number of tourists both at home and abroad came to Lhasa to visit the famous scenic spots, such as Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple, Namtso Lake Scenic Area and so on. According to the statistics provided by Tibet Tourism Bureau, the number of tourists came to Tibet keep rising between January and August 2012. Lhasa has received more than 5 million tourists both at home and abroad till August. It has increased 29.27 percent compared to the same period of last year. Lhasa has realized a total tourism revenue of 4.56 billion RMB in the first 8 months of 2012 and it has increased 27 percent compared to the same period of last year.

August is the peak season of Tibet tourism. The famous Shoton Festival and Horsee Racing Festival would be celebrated in August and a large number of tourists both at home and abroad would like to come to Tibet during this period so as to experience the special festival atmosphere. The celebration of such kind of festivals provides tourists the chance to explore the Tibetan folk customs while enjoy the fascinating natural landscape.

It is reported that Lhasa received more than 1.04 million tourists both at home and abroad during the celebration of Shoton Festival. The number of tourists increased more than 15.3 percent compared to the same period of last year. Lhasa realized a total tourism revenue of more than 0.3 billion RMB and that increased 15.04 percent compared to the same period of last year.

Lhasa experienced its last peak tourism season during the National Day Holiday. The number of tourists both at home and abroad reached another peak point. 80 percent of the hotels and restaurants in Lhasa were reserved before the holiday. It proves that Lhasa has been one of the most popular tourism destinations around the world since a large quantity of domestic and abroad tourists would like to come here to spend their holiday.

To offer tourists the chance to experience the unique plateau landscape and Tibetan folk customs, the travel agencies in Lhasa explored a series of tourism routes which collected the most amazing natural scenic spots on Tibet Plateau, such as Namtso Lake, Yamdrok Lake, Mt.Kailash and Mt.Everest.
