Types of Tibetan Clothes

Local Tibetans would wear different types of clothes in different social occasions. They would wear splendid formal costumes on important festivals, such as Tibetan Shoton Festival and Tibetan New Year. Generally, Tibetan clothes are divided into three types – the labor suit, formal dress and warrior outfit.

Types of Tibetan Clothes – the Labor Suit

To adapt to the changing climate in different seasons, local Tibetans would wear different labor suits. Labor suit is one of the most commonly wear Tibetan clothes. The thickness of the suit would be adjusted to better meet their demand. In spring and summer, they would wear short shirts made of cottons or brocades, and long-gown made of woolen with long sleeves and round collar.

They will also use a belt with a length of about 2 meters and a width of about 20 centimeters acts as the waistband. The belt would be weaved with woolens of different colors. This belt would form a big pocket in front of the clothes. Local Tibetans could put some commonly used stuff in the pocket. In the autumn and winter, Tibetans would wear some leather-wares to keep warm in the cold climate. They would protect themselves from the cold from the head to the feet. Earflaps and high boots will be taken into use.

Types of Tibetan Clothes – Formal Dress

The formal dress would be the most beautiful and exquisite one among the three types of Tibetan clothes. These kind of Tibetan clothes are always made by superior materials. Exquisite workmanship would also be one of the characters of Tibetan formal dress. It should be noted that the patterns on the clothes would be very splendid. To strengthen the festal atmosphere, the formal dresses would be more colorful than the other types of Tibetan clothes. Warrior Outfit is one of the most classic types of Tibetan clothes. The warrior outfit is always decorated with a long sword to present a manly beauty. These kinds of clothes would always been wear during the sports competition games, such as the horse racing festival.
