Update: Dec. 28th, 2012

weather in nagri

The inclemency of the weather in Ngari causes complicated road conditions. As a professional Tibet tour operator, we offer some tips for driving in Ngari.

Driving Through Landslides Region:

Avoid driving through the rocks which are higher than the underpan. If someone are needed to move away rocks on the road, other people need to keep an eye on the mountain, in case stones rolling down. Enlarge the distance between cars and keep far away from trucks running before you.

Driving Through the Marsh and Soft Ground:

Step down the ground to see whether there are any water comes out. If so, do not go through. If getting stuck in the mud, long time’s wheel slipping is not allowed, lay a carpet to help to drive back. When meeting soft ground, use second gear or third gear to speed up and pass.

Driving Through Mudding Road and Snow-covered Road:

If installed air-adding system, reduce half of the air pressure to get across. When following the marks of the front cars, slow down and remain at a low speed to move forward. Downshift in time, gently press the brake and wobble the steering wheel when going down mountains. When meeting the bumpy and rough path or sand road, increase or decrease the speed according to the condition. Look out the crosswise weaving of the car body. Restrict the speed in 60 kilometer per hour especially in the macadam pavement.

Driving Through the Grassland and Wilderness:

Try not to drive at night, because it is easy to lose your way. Make sure what the time is and find a place to stay at night. Find a reference object to guide your way, for example, an electric pole or cable pole. Do not look away from the reference object and pay attention to the geographical map to get information about the flow of rivers and the location of lakes.
