Land Resources

Nyingchi prefecture is with fertile soil and rich resources. When looking around, you will find yourself in a green world. Areas suitable for agriculture are 450 thousand mu, of which the used area is 280 thousand mu; meadow areas are 4.4 million mu, of which the available area is 0.8 million mu.

Forest Resources

The forest covers 2.64 million hectares and the percentage of forest cover is 46.09%. It is the third largest forest region of China. The forest area in Nyingchi takes up eighty percent of the whole forest areas in Tibet. The vast primeval forest contains abundant forest products, rare animal and plant resources. It almost centralizes all kinds of vegetation from Hailan Island to northern part, of which over 3500 vegetation has been found and confirmed. Essential characteristics of forest resources in Nyingchi are shown in Motuo reserves for animals and plants of National grade, Cayuciba rare animals and plants reserves, Bomigang coniferous forest reserves, Nyingchi ancient giant cypress reserves, etc.

Hydro-power Resources

Hydro-power resource in Tibet is one of the largest in China, and hydro-power resource in Nyingchi takes up over 70% of Tibet. Big Turn electric power station of Yarlung Zangbo River, whose installed capacity is 60 million kilowatts, three times of the capacity of Three Gorges, is listed one of the Ten Super Engineering by the United Nations. Locates in the middle and lower reaches of Yarlung Zangbo River, and influenced by the Indian Ocean’s warm and wet air, Nyingchi prefecture gets abundant rains, densely covered rivers and lakes. The whole water area covers 11.5 million mu, reserves of hydro-power resources are about 82.3 million kilowatts. Moreover, many places can construct electric power station in Nyingchi and it holds ideal condition for constructing reservoir as the rivers are steep and natural drops are big.
