Tibetan Festivals in the Peak Season of Tibet Tour

Shoton Festival Ceremony

The period between June and September is regarded as the peak season of Tibet tour. To better explore the Tibetan folk customs and culture. Though there are numerous traditional Tibetan festivals in a year, only a few of them are celebrated in the peak season of Tibet tour, such as the Lingka Festival, Bathing Festival and Shoton Festival.

Tibetan Festivals in the Peak Season of Tibet Tour – Lingka Festival

Lingka means garden in Tibetan. Generally, the Lingka Festival would be celebrated around June 1st. On this day, all the Tibetans (herdsmen, peasants and citizens in the city) would go to the parks to experience the happy festival atmosphere in the gardens. Various Tibetan style tents with auspicious patterns would be settled under the tree shade in the park. In addition, the local Tibetans would also bring their cooking stuffs and prepared food to the park to share with their relatives and friends. Some big lingkas would hold grand celebration ceremony on Lingka Festivals; the Tibetans could appreciate the wonderful art performance while enjoying the delicious food.

Tibetan Festivals in the Peak Season of Tibet Tour – Bathing Festival

The annual Tibetan Bathing Festival would be celebrated in the first half of July according to the Tibetan calendar when the weather gets warmer. Various bathing activities would be held in the holy lakes and rivers in Tibet. Generally, the celebration would last for one week. Tourists join the Tibet festival tours during the bathing week would find that Tibetans of both sexes and all ages are taking part in the bathing. The Tibetan women would also wash their clothes and quilts during the bathing week. For local Tibetans, all the diseases would be washed away if you have a bath on the Bathing Festival.
