Scenery along the Way from Lhasa to Nyingchi

Baksumtso Lake

Along the way from Lhasa to Nyingchi, scenery is beautiful, and sight spots are numerous. It is an important route of Tibet tour.

The highway from Lhasa to Nyingchi is the Lhasa section of Sichuan-Tibet Highway, as well as the section of Sichuan-Tibet Highway with best road condition. In addition, the highway connects with Nyingchi include Nyingchi – Ranwu Highway which is 345 metes long, passing by Tongmai, Bome; Tsedang – Nyingchi Highway which is 475 kilometers, passing by Jiacha and Milin. The Milin is 74 kilometers away from Bayi Town. It takes about 2 hours to drive to Bayi Town. Lhasa is about 400 kilometers away from Bayi Town.

Scenery along the Way from Lhasa to Nyingchi – Lhasa River and Niyang River

To go along 318 National Highway from Lhasa, the slowly flowing Lhasa River and surging Niyang River are along the way. Lhasa River is the "mother river" of Lhasa City. It winds from south section of Lhasa. Along the bank of Lhasa River, the offwhite water flows slowly. With the refraction of sunlight on the sky, the surface of Lhasa River shows blue color with different degree of depth.

The Lhasa River is wide, and water flows gently. The river course of Niyang River is narrow and long, and water flows rapidly. Although water in Lhasa River is turbid, it can make mind be peaceful. The Niyang River is narrow, but it can make mind get away from mundane affairs. The Lhasa River is like a person who ever experienced ups and downs of life and with presence of mind in the face of disasters. The vicissitudes in the life brought him modest temperament. The Niyang River is like an inexperienced youth who accumulated richly and broke forth vastly. He maintained his original pure character.

The Rock Pillar in Mid-River at the upper reach of Niyang River stands in the narrow course of Niyang River. When passes by the Rock Pillar in Mid-River, water becomes more turbulent.

Scenery along the Way from Lhasa to Nyingchi – Mila Mountain

The Mila Mountain is the watershed of Lhasa River and Niyang River. The flow direction of Lhasa River and Niyang River is opposite. The Niyang River flows from west to east, and Lhasa River flows from east to west. But they flow into Yarlung Zanpo River at last.

Scenery along the way from Lhasa to Nyingchi – Baksumtso Lake

The Baksumtso Lake is located at a deep valley on the upper reach of Ba River where is about 50 kilometers away from Jiangda County in Kongpo District, Nyingchi Prefecture. It is a famous holy lake and holy place of Red Section of Tibetan Buddhism. At the place where is about 100 meters away from the bank, there is a small island named Tashi Island. According to legend, the island is a hollow island. That is to say the island is floating on the lake. On the island, there is "Cuozong Gongba Monastery" which was built in Tang Dynasty.

From Lhasa to Ranwu, you will passes by Medro Gongkar, Gongbu Jiangda, Bayi Town, Lulang, Tongmai, Bome and Ranwu. It is the south line of Sichuan-Tibet Highway. The scenery along the way is picturesque. Along the way, change of landscapes is very fast. You will enjoy snow mountain, river valley, prayer flags, grassland, forest, rapid flow, flying stone, cableway, folk residence, flowers, etc.
