Pabongang in Tibet

Update: Oct. 11th, 2012

Pabongang

Pabongang, literally means the palaces located on a huge stone in Tibetan language, and now this building named Pabongang is located in the Nangre Mountain, the north suburb of Lhasa city.

It is said that Pabongang in which have ever been lived by Songtsen Gampo and Wencheng Princess. After that, Johkang Temple has been established when Songtsen Gampo lived here. In the meanwhile, Tibetan language originally created and spread from here. The proof, one stone carving carved Tibetan Buddhism words has been successfully preserved still now.

Walk along with the Nangre Road about 3 kilometers and take a chance to enjoy the overview of the whole Lhasa city in front of Pabongang. It is said that Pabongang is a part of Sera Monastery in which a hermitage of Living Buddha but also the largest place of celestial burial. You will not see crowded tourists here that like Johkang Temple, Sera Monastery or Drepung Monastery except few footprints of religious Tibetans.

There is a big vivid eye of half feet long carved in the wall inside Pabongang. It is the treasure of this small Pabongang. It is said to be one of the eyes of Buddhist monk's, the other two eyes will be found in other two higher mountains if you are an enthusiastic fans of trekking. Tibetans will tell you they are watched and protected by these three eyes year in year out.

There is an open plain after going through Pabongang in which hung mass of prayer flags. I think it is the place of celestial burial as I can see a lot of small and short white tower hidden in the grass. They look like the small graves. Here is an ideal feeding ground of vulture's, isn't it?
