Gyantse Tour – Introduction of Pala Manor

The Pala Manor is the best preserved feudal lord manor in Tibet. It is listed as one of the twelve great manors. It is the true portrayal of life of noblemen and serfs in old Tibet and the epitome of old Tibet.

The Pala Manor was built in Jiangar Village, Gyantse County. It was burned down by Britain invade force in 1904. After the battle of Anti-Britain ended, the Pala Manor was rebuilt on the other bank of Nianchu River in Gyantse. It is located in the Banjiulunbu Village which is about 4 kilometers away from Gyantse. With the power of Pala Family increased, the scale of Pala Manor also enlarged. Before the Tibetan democratic reform, Pala Manor had 22 attached small manors, 6 ranches, over 8600 mu fields, over 14250 livestock and over 2440 serfs.

Now, the Pala Manor has 57 rooms. The main architecture of the Pala Manor is three floors. The whole manor is well-equipped and exquisitely decorated. In the Pala Manor, there are scripture hall, reception room, bedroom and special room for playing Majiang. The carved beams and painted rafters in the manor look very beautiful and imposing. The scripture hall is exquisitely decorated. The scriptures and niche for the Buddha status are well preserved. In the bedroom, there are various golden, silver and jade articles, as well as many famous foods, table wares, precious clothes left by the noblemen of Pala Family. All of these vividly show us the scenes of luxurious life of Pala Family at that time. In the main building of Pala Manor, there are kurbash, ankle chains and other implements of punishment exhibited. The Pala Manor also preserved the prison at that time. Until now, there are 13 rooms of serfs still keeping in their original scene. The crowd, low and dark rooms of serfs brightly contrast to the luxurious rooms of noblemen. The present Pala manor is with many flowers, trees and other landscapes. The whole distribution of the Pala Manor is like a garden.

Gyantse Tour – Transportation to Pala Manor

The Pala Manor is located in the Banjiulunbu Village, Gyantse Country which is about 4 kilometers to southwest of Gyantse town. If you want to visit the Pala Manor in your Gyantse tour, you can charter a vehicle at Gyantse. The cost is about 10 CNY. Of course, you can walk to the Pala Manor which will spend about one hour. The scenery on the way to Pala Manor is very beautiful.

Gyantse Tour – Entrance Ticket of Pala Manor

The entrance ticket of Pala Manor is 30 CNY for each person. If you want to take photos in the Pala Manor, you will be charged extra 15 CNY.
