Tibetan Clothes in Rural Regions

For the freedom of movement, people in the rural regions would wear Tibetan clothes with their own characters. The style of Tibetan clothes was basically decided by their working pattern and living style. The clothes also reflect certain aspects of the local culture.

Tibetan Clothes in Rural Regions – Clothes of Common Males

The males in the rural regions would wear a long gown with a big collar, and the right lappet would always been opened. They used to tight the waist part of the clothes with weaved colorful belt. This belt would form a big pocket in front and local Tibetans would put their personal effects in the pocket. Some of the local Tibetans would wear a pair of high boots to match their Tibetan clothes while there is still a number of people would like to be barefoot in the summer. Long time ago, the Tibetan males had long hair and they would close up their hair on the head for the consideration of easy-handling. Get the ears pierced is also a local tradition and they will always wear a big earring on the left ear.

Tibetan Clothes in Rural Regions – Clothes of Common Females

The females in the rural regions would wear long gowns with long sleeves in winter and sleeveless long gowns in the summer. Colorful shirts with different patterns would be the best inner wears for the sleeveless Tibetan clothes. The clothes of the females are said to be the most characteristic ones among the Tibetan clothes. The adult women would always wear a colorful apron as a decoration while the young girls don't need to.

The styles and patterns of the Tibetan clothes are different from regions to regions in Tibet due to the different natural environment and climate. The Tibetan clothes have their own features in Qamdo Prefecture, Shannan Prefecture and Shigatse Prefecture. Regarding the decorations, there are more local features. Generally, the young girls would set one pigtail while the adult ladies would separate their pigtail into two. The adult lady would also wear a triangle decoration on the top of their head and that decoration was called Badrol in Tibetan.

Tibetan Clothes in Rural Regions – Clothes of the Lamas

The lamas in Tibetan would wear long amaranthine skirt. They would wear a waistcoat and always be with a cassock on their shoulders. They have their own tailor-maid lama boots while there are a large number of barefoot lamas in different monasteries. The clothes of the lamas and nuns are said to be the most rigorous clothes among all the Tibetan clothes. The style, color and material of their clothes would be decided by their status.
