Tsupu Monastery

Located in the upper stream, 60 kilometers away from the west of Tsupu River of Lhasa, Tsupu Monastery was build as the major monastery of Karma Kagyu Sect which is one of the four major sects of the Gagyu Sect of Tibetan Buddhism. It already has a history of more than 800 years. The founder of Karma Kagyu Sect, the first Living Buddha Garmaba Doisum Qenba, in 1189 originally created the reincarnation system of Living Buddha, which has been succeeded successfully by generations. This is absolutely a great and creative system of Buddhism system, isn't it?

Tsupu Monastery in which Living Buddha lived once had great influence on the political and religious situation in Tibet, and the 2nd Living Buddha Garmaba, Garmabashi, dedicated to promote Buddhism in the imperial court of Genghis Khan.

Top 7 Tibetan Monastery Buildings - Tsupu Monastery

Status: The major monastery of Karma Kagyu Sect which also called Black Hat Sect.

Built: AD 1187

Feature: The founder of this monastery originally created the reincarnation system of Living Buddha.

Treasure: "Buddha Statue in the air". It is said to be constructed by the 8th Living Buddha Garmaba. After finishing, the Buddha Statue has been suspended in the air for 7 days. Now the 17th Garmaba Living Buddha is taking charge of this monastery.

Tibet Architecture: the major building is the central hall of 5-floor high surrounding by scripture halls, living room of Living Buddha, rooms of monks, and other halls in Tsupu Monastery. The 30m high of Sakyamuni Statue contains the Sarira of tathagata, the bowl and the crutch of Milaripa's, the founder of Kagyu Sect, and other treasures.

During the 10th - 12th of June every year of Tibetan calendar, the Buddha exhibition and Buddhist assembly and other events will be held in different ways, singing, dancing, drama, as well as other sports events on the second day.
