Brief Introduction of Hada

About Hada, it is recorded that "every year, Qionglai, Dayi and other cities will produce and sell large amount of Hada, which is a large part of trade". In history, the most famous high-grade Hada is from Linqing City. The designs on Hada of Linqing are various. It is said that an officer of Tibet in early Qing Dynasty ever asked to choose Hada in Soochow and Hangchow. But he didn't satisfy with these Hada. Then, he walked toward north along the canal, and got satisfied Hada in Linqing. Since then, Linqing Hada became very famous and was sold to every district of Tibet; ever sold to India, Nepal, Thailand, Iran and other religious countries.

Brief Introduction of Hada - Color

The texture of Hada includes gauze, common silk and high-grade silk. But people don't care its texture, if only it can express emotions. The color of Hada includes white, yellow and blue. The most commonly see is white Hada which represents elegance and purity. It owns the features of soft, quiet and peaceful. Base on the explanation in Buddhism doctrine, white means "honesty", "kindhearted", "tenderness", "mercy", "auspice", "light", "purity" and "victory". Tibetans think it is very auspicious and respectable. It is also the symbol of Tibetans' pure heart. To use white Hada as the gift in first meeting means sincerity and honest, to bless everything goes well. Tibetan idiom said that "the white Hada is the best, while the honest person is the best". Blue represents blue sky, symbolize river; blue Hada represents it is as sunny and cloudless as the sky; it is very popular in the nobleman relationship. Yellow represents earth. Yellow Hada represents "nobility", "gorgeous" and "sincerity". The most precious Hada is which with nine Buddha Statues and beautiful auspicious designs on it. It is treasure in worshipping and some of them also used to present to the noblest man.

Brief Introduction of Hada – Different Kinds of Hada

Hada is in rectangle, but the texture, size and color is different. One can choose different Hada base on the object and one's economic situation. There are third grade Hada which is as sparse as net, three or four feet long and several inches wide -- zub-btags; the middle grade Hada -- zub-she; the high grade Hada which is made up of silk, five or six feet long and several feet wide, and with auspicious designs on it -- a-she; the top grade Hada which is ten or twenty feet long and two feet wide -- nang-mdzod.

Zub-btags Hada is made up from ramie, looks like the gauze with brightener on it; about one meter long. A-she Hada is narrower than nang-mdzod Hada, two meters long, and the texture is slightly loosened. A-she Hada is better than zub-she Hada. Commonly, nang-mdzod is very long and wide, texture is good and with designs or auspicious words on it. The longest nang-mdzod is over 3 meters long

Brief Introduction of Hada – Colorful Hada

Colorful Hada is the most solemn gift, which only present to Buddha or close relations to make colorful arrow. It is recorded that colorful Hada is the clothes of Buddha, which only present to Buddha and close relations. It only used in particular time. There is a sentence in Tibet folk song that "colorful Hada is the clothes of Buddha, yellow Hada is the clothes and hat of living Buddha". In Kang-ba district, except white Hada, they also have the custom of presenting yellow Hada to guru and living Buddha.
