Ten Tips for High Altitude Sickness

1. When just reach high plateau, everyone will have different degree chest distress, short breathe, dyspnoea and some other oxygen deficiency symptoms. The serious symptoms are headache, muscle ache, insomnia and so on. This reaction is very common, which will be better or disappear in one to three days if you could correctly protect yourself. After alleviating, you should control yourself to guarantee the safe.

2. People often us oxygen inhalation to alleviate the uncomfortable which caused by high altitude sickness. Of course, oxygen inhalation can temporarily relieve chest distress, short breath, dyspnoea and some other symptoms. These symptoms will appear again once you stop inhaling oxygen, which will delay the time of adapting to high altitude sickness. If these symptoms are not very serious, especially very light when you are quiet, you are suggested not to inhale oxygen, and then you can adapt to high altitude condition quickly.

3. When you just come into high plateau, you should not eat too much to add burden to your digestive organs, so that you can not better adapt to the high altitude condition.

4. You are suggested to eat more vegetables, fruits and some other foods with rich Vitamin, drink enough amount of water. Do not smoke or drink alcohol.

5. When you just arrive in high plateau, do not walk fast, run or do physical labor. It will be better if you could spend half a day to take a rest. At the first night after you arriving in high plateau, you should go to bed early, and guarantee enough sleep.

6. You are suggested to avoid cold, which is one of the main causes of acute high plateau pulmonary edema. Because temperature difference in high plateau is very obvious, it is very easy to get cold. Please remember that dress more clothes to keep warm.

7. You are suggested to go to lower places first, and then come into higher places, which will be more helpful for adapting to high altitude condition. The tour should be ease and loosen.

8. Please do not scare if there are some symptoms of high altitude sickness. You can take some treatment target on the reaction level. If the symptoms are light, you can rest quietly, drink more water and do less movement. In common situation, these symptoms will disappear after a period of time. If these symptoms are very serious, which have affected your sleep, you can take some medicine. If the symptoms are too serious, you are suggested to go to hospital for treatment. If you can endure the high altitude sickness anymore, you can take the earliest flight go back to lower places, then the condition will relieve.

9. You are suggested to choose a better hotel and tourism vehicle, to make you have a better condition during your tour. So, you not only can relax yourself, but also helpful for conquer high altitude sickness. Furthermore, please open windows when you sleep to let air can freely flow.

10. Common medicine for high altitude sickness precaution: rhodiola, glucose and so on. You should take them 2 days in advance, and keep taking during you tour, which can effective prevent high altitude sickness.
