Acute Mountain Sickness – High Altitude Sickness

High Altitude Sickness Warning

The high altitude refers to the altitude above 3000m and features low air pressure, and low oxygen pressure. Some people will suffer Acute Mountain Sickness because of absence of oxygen. High altitude sickness, Acute Mountain Sickness easily affects climbers, mountaineers, soldiers and workers there.

Acute Mountain Sickness Diagnosis

High Altitude Sickness often occurred in first days arrival in plateau, which is called Acute Mountain Sickness. If the signs and symptoms keep more than 3 months, it is called chronic high altitude sickness.

High Altitude Sickness Category

High Altitude Sickness is divided into four categories by overseas scholars, Acute Mountain Sickness, High Altitude Pulmonary Edema, High Altitude Cerebral Edema, High Altitude Retinal Hemorrhage and chronic high altitude sickness.

Domestic scholars divided high altitude sickness into Acute Mountain Sickness and Chronic High Altitude Sickness.

Treatments of Acute Mountain Sickness

Acute Mountain Sickness often occurs after 24 hours and it will be recovered in 1-2 weeks. If you get the suffer Acute Mountain Sickness, you are kindly suggested to take some medicines such as acetazolamide. It will be helpful to your sleep quality and incidence decreasing, and the absence of oxygen. Prednison could be taken 5-10mg twice a day and it is better to take after three days arrival in high altitude.

High Altitude Pulmonary Edema

You should take enough oxygen and take a rest on bed. You'd better to keep warm every moment and prevent the infection of the upper respiratory tract. Do not drink lots of water. Take some medicines such as furosemide, aminophylline, glucose liquid, and prednisone.

High Altitude Cerebral Edema

Firstly take enough oxygen (95% of oxygen and 5% of carbon dioxide). Take some glucose liquid, mannitol, cortin, and cytochrome C to relieve the signs and symptoms of High Altitude Cerebral Edema. And then you should be treated after back to lower altitude.
