Suggestions for High Altitude Sickness Precaution

Some visitors who first coming into high plateau may appear high altitude sickness, which symptoms include headache, dizzy, chest distress, short breath, cardiopalmus, nausea and vomiting, insomnia, high blood pressure and so on. These symptoms in the first day will be very obvious, and then may alleviate or disappear later. But some people may become more serious due to tiredness, cold, upper respiratory tract infection and some other reasons, and become high plateau pulmonary edema or high plateau cerebral edema. So, how to alleviate or prevent high altitude sickness during your Tibet tour? There are some suggestions.

Suggestions for High Altitude Sickness Precaution

Visitors with diseases about heart, lung, brain and hematological system are not suitable for high plateau tour. For people with good health, the symptoms of high altitude sickness may be very light. After coming into high plateau, you are suggested to not smoke or drink alcohol to prevent respiratory tract infection. You should not do vigorous activities or be too tired, bring some medicine for high altitude sickness.

You should equip with good psychological quality and keep in good mood. If you pay too much attention to the high altitude sickness, it may make the symptoms of high altitude sickness more serious.

In general, people will recover from high altitude sickness by oneself. If the symptoms are too serious, one should take symptomatic treatment, like oxygen inhalation, have pain killer or diazepam tablet, and drink rhodiola oral liquid and so on. For the high plateau pneumochysis and high plateau cerebral edema which hardly can be seen, people should inhale large amount of oxygen, take some medicine treatment, and quickly transfer to lower places.

The weather on high plateau is changeable; especially the temperature in morning and at night is very low. So, you should pay attention to keep warm. Even in summer, you are kindly suggested to bring sweater, cold-proof underwear before going. In winter, the temperature will be much lower. Then, you should pay more attention to keep warm and freeze proof. You should take sunglasses and hat when you do outdoor activities, to prevent the skin from the hurt of ultraviolet radiation.

About diet, you are suggested to choose some foods with high-calorie, and can be easily digested. You should not eat too much so that it add burden to your digestive organs. When sleep, you can take semi reclining position to release the burden of heart and lung.
