Key Points of High Altitude Sickness Precaution

For plateau visitors, high altitude sickness precaution is an important matter about life and death. So, visitors must know the key points of high altitude sickness precaution and simple first aid knowledge before coming to plateau.

Visitors must do physical examination before going to plateau. People with following diseases are not suitable for plateau tour: chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases, interstitial lung disease, variety of respiratory insufficiency, organic heart disease, cerebrovascular disease, hypertension, diseases of digestive system, Neurological and mental disorders and serious chronic diseases. If there is no way to ensure safe, please do oxygen-poor test.

Key Points of High Altitude Sickness Precaution – Physical and Mental Preparation

(1) Physical Preparation: to eliminate the fear. You can get some information about plateau environment, features and health care knowledge from books or experienced tourists, to enhance self-confidence.

(2)Do adaptive training. Like climbing mountains, long distance running, walking with load and so on to increase the lung capacity and adaptive capacity.

(3) You should know the local weather, prepare abundant clothes, and pay attention to cold-resistance and maintain warmth, to avoid acute upper respiratory infection.

Key Points of High Altitude Sickness Precaution – Tips in Plateau

(1) Keep in good mood; remove unnecessary fear about plateau; avoid too nervous to let the organism to take a rest.

(2) Avoid cold. The climate in plateau very cold, the temperature range is great. If get cold, organism easily get respiratory infection and result to acute high altitude sickness.

(3) Avoid heavy activities and heavy physical labor in first two days. Climb to higher place slowly to make organism adapt to the environment.

(4) Eat more food with high glucose and good quality protein which will be helpful for overcome the oxygen-poor condition.

(5) Don't smoke and drink alcohol. It can decrease oxygen consumption.

(6) After coming into plateau, have some anti-high altitude sickness tonic for three to five days.
