Baer Chude Monastery in Nyingchi

Except for the noted monasteries, there is also a series of rare-visited monasteries in Nyingchi. Tourists making a Nyingchi tour and willing to visit some special monasteries will have the chance to experience different religious atmosphere in various monasteries.

Rare-visited Monasteries in Nyingchi – Qiangna Monastery

Qiangna Monastery is located in Milin County. It covers an area of 5088 square meters with a construction area of 7542 square meters. There are 9 lamas in the monastery currently. The original Qiangna Monastery belonged to Kagyu Sect was constructed in a valley in Qiangna County in the 15th century. The existing Qiangna Monastery belongs to Gelug Sect was relocated in 1953. The statue of child Byams-pa is enshrined in the monastery. Besides, a statue of a pig's head is also enshrined in the monastery for a mysterious legend. It is said that the new location was directed by a pig which is regarded as the embodiment of the goddess Dorje Pam.

Rare-visited Monasteries in Nyingchi – Tashi Raodeng Monastery

Tashi Raodeng Monastery is located in Milin County and is about 72 kilometers away from Bayi Town. It is also noted as Zharao Monastery which was originated from Gamu Monastery. It was originally belonged to Gama Gagyu Sect and belongs to Gelug Sect currently.

Tashi Raodeng Monastery is one of the largest monasteries in Nyingchi Prefecture. The statues of Sakyamuni and Tsongkhapa are enshrined in the monastery. A series of religious activities would be held in Tashi Raodeng Monastery every year, among which the Worshipping Festival is the most solemn one. A special religious dance which has a history of more than 400 years would be performed especially for the celebration of this festival. Generally, it would be performed on September 21st, 22nd and 23rd according to the Tibetan calendar each year. On the Worshipping Festival Day, the local Tibetans would wear their festal suits and go to the monasteries for pilgrimage with their barley wine and Tsampa.

Rare-visited Monasteries in Nyingchi – Baer Chude Monastery

Baer Chude Monastery is located in Langxian County, Nyingchi Prefecture. It is one of the largest monasteries in Nyingchi Area which covers an area of more than 2000 square meters. It is an ancient monastery which could be dated back to 1195. The existing Baer Chude Monastery was reconstructed in 1984. Tourists making a Nyingchi tour here will have the chance to explore different Tibetan Buddhism culture through the precious historical relics collected in the monastery. This monastery was originally belong to Gagyu Sect and later changed to a monastery of Gelug Sect due to historical changes.
