Notes of Visiting Potala Palace – Before Coming into Potala Palace

Before coming into Potala Palace, you should know that it is prohibited to take flammable and explosive articles and controlled knife with you when visit the Potala Palace, such as oxygen container and lighter. Hence, tourists who get high altitude sickness and want to take oxygen contain with you should make mental preparation in advance.

After coming into the scenic area of Potala Palace, you need to buy the entrance ticket of Potala Palace at the real gate with the ticket voucher.

After coming into Potala Palace, it is prohibited to make phone call (from buying the entrance ticket and coming into the White Palace). In order to avoid unnecessary trouble, you are suggested to arrange your important affairs in advance.

The Potala Palace is divided into White Palace and Red Palace. After coming into the gate of White Palace, there is White Palace Square with a toilet on right side. Then, there is almost no toilet on the way. There are 13 floors in White Palace. On top of White Palace, there is a platform connecting with Red Palace. In Red Palace, there is a large amount of scriptures which was written with gold powder, as well as soul pagodas of Dalai Lamas' and five Mandalas which was built with gold.

Each guide of Potala Palace only can take a group with 30 tourists. So, if the number of tourists in your group is over 30, you have to come into Tibet in different groups. Please understand it.

There are only 30 tourists can go into the Potala Palace every half of an hour. Consequently, please note the visiting time on your ticket voucher before visiting Potala Palace. The ticket will be invalid after the visiting time listed on the ticket voucher.

The visiting time of Potala Palace is an hour. The time will be counted from coming into White Palace. Administers in Potala Palace will urge tourists. In general, the visiting time in Potala Palace is less than one hour.

Notes of Visiting Potala Palace – After Coming into Potala Palace

After coming into Potala Palace, it is prohibited to wear sunglasses and hat.

It is prohibited to take photos or shoot in Potala Palace.

It is prohibited to speak loudly in Potala Palace.

It is prohibited to smoke in Potala Palace.

It is prohibited to touch or fiddle with cultural and historical relics as you please.
