Midui Glacier in Nyingchi

Midui Glacier is located at the upper reaches of Midui River, a tributary of Yarlung Zangbo River. Midui Glacier is quite close to the Sichuan-Tibet Highway. It attracts a large number of tourists for its convenient transportation. It is a typical oceanic glacier in southeastern Tibet. The fantastic natural scenery composed of beautiful glacier and lakes, as well as the idyllic field and villages attract a large quantity of tourists making a Nyingchi tour.

Brief Introduction of Midui Glacier in Nyingchi

The main peak of Midui Glacier enjoys an altitude 6800, the snowline here is only 4600 meters above the sea level while the snowline at the tail end of the glacier is only 2400 meters above the sea level. Midui Glacier is formed by the confluence of world-class ice waterfalls. Each ice waterfall here enjoys a height of more than 800 meters and a width of more than 1000 meters. There is even a well-preserved primitive forest located between the two glaciers.

Midui Glacier is one of the three largest oceanic glaciers in China and also the lowest glacier above the sea level. Tourists making a Nyingchi tour in spring would find that the edges of Midui Glacier are decorated by colorful wild flowers. Besides, tourists here could also witness herds of sheep, cows and monkeys, as well as the special Tibetan style dwellings.

Midui Glacier is originated from the snow mountain with an altitude of higher than 6000 meters. There is a giant chair-shaped ice basin surrounded by ice and snow. The snow slide happens frequently here and it is said that frequent snow is the main recharge process for the glacier development. The ice and snow in the basin will fall to the origin valley of Midui River like a giant ice water fall. Tourists making a Nyingchi tour here would be surprised by the creativity of the nature.

Tips for Travel to Midui Glacier during the Nyingchi Tour

Midui Glacier is situated between Ranwu Town in Basu County and Bome Town Seat. It is closer to get to the glacier from Ranwu Town compared to Bome County Seat. The bus between Bayi Town and Ranwu Town is available. Tibet Tour would always arrange tourists a SUV which could take you to Midui Village directly. It takes only about 2 hours to walk to Midui Glacier from the village and tourists could get back to stay overnight at Ranwu Town.
