With the appearance of new material and new techniques, there appeared barbola Thangka, embroidery Thangka, brocade Thangka, tapestry Thangka and colored printing Thangka on the base on painting Thangka. In the strict sense, Tibet Thangka is not only a painting art. These new making methods and ways also enriched traditional Thangka art. The making methods and way of these new appeared Thangkas have great difference with painting Thangka, but the content, composition and size proportion are same with painting Thangka. All of them are in accordance with traditional classical theory specifications.

Main Features of Tibet Thangka – Barbola Thangka

The barbpla is a kind of creative way which first clips the figure, flower, pavilion and so on from various colored brocade, and then stick them on the fabric. This making method originated from a cloths making way in inland districts. The feature of this technique is which can increase the color change and stereo perception of the work. This kind of technique was used to make Thangka after it introduced into Tibet, and it developed into a new kind of Thangka. After long time development, the Barbola Thangka is becoming mature.

Main Features of Tibet Thangka – Embroidery Thangka

The embroidery Thangka is embroidered by various silk thread on the satin face. The embroidery technique is very popular in central China and south China, and even famous in the world. It is said that the embroidery technique in Tibet was introduced from Mongolia, used to make Thangka and form specific embroidery Thangka. The main features of embroidery Thangka are its bright color and natural transition.

Main Features of Tibet Thangka – Brocade Thangka and Tapestry Thangka

The brocade Thangka is made up of a single color warp (almost are plain color) interweave wit different colored parallels. The tapestry is a kind of special technique about move the painting to fabric which is China specific. These two kinds of technique were used to make Thangka, form brocade Thangka and tapestry Thangka.

Main Features of Tibet Thangka – Colored Printing Thangka

First carve the picture on plate, use ink to print it on silk or delaine (it is similar with the block printing in ancient), and then color it. This kind of Thangka is with slim strokes, powerful carving skill, obvious level and unique features.
