Nyingchi Prefecture is located in Southeastern Tibet at the lower reaches of Yarlung Zangbo River. With an average altitude of 3100 meters, Nyingchi Prefecture covers a total area of 0.117 million square kilometers. According to statistics, Nyingchi has a population of 0.195 million, among which there are Han group, Monpa ethnic group and Lhoba ethnic group. Nyingchi Prefecture has rich and diversified tourisms resources, distinctive folk customs and profound cultural deposits.

Brief Introduction of Tourism Resources in Nyingchi

It is reported that the forest resource in Nyingchi Prefecture takes about 70 percent of the total forest resource in Tibet. The varied geological landscapes in Nyingchi made it more charming to tourists. The largest and deepest canyon in the world - Yarlung Zangbo Grand Canyon, the 15th highest peak above the sea level - Namjagbarwa Peak (with an altitude of 7782 meters) and the world famous modern glacier - Midui Glacier in Nyingchi have been the most attractive tourism resources in Nyingchi Prefecture.

In addition, the Monpa ethnic group and Lhoba ethic group, as well as the Tibetans living in Kongpo Area in Nyingchi Prefecture have their own distinctive traditional folk customs. Tourists making a Tibet tour here could witness an impressive life style which is quite different from the other regions in Tibet. At the same time, Nyingchi is widely regarded as the cradle land of the traditional Tibetan medicinal culture and also one of the birthplaces of the native region - Bon. Tourism Resources in Nyingchi - Regular and Special Spots in Nyingchi

It is said that the period between May and October is the peak season of Nyingchi tour. Most of the tourists would only spend two or three days in Nyingchi to visit the regular scenic spots. In fact, two or three days is quite far from enough to enjoy the real charm of Nyingchi. Except for the most noted Baksumtso Lake, Giant Cypress Forest and Lulang Forest Sea, there are several other sites worth a visit.

Nyingchi Prefecture has jurisdiction over 7 counties and each of them has their own highlights. For instance, there is gorgeous spruce forest in Gangxiang County, Mishmi People Cultural Village with special folk customs in Zay County, Taizhao Ancient City which plays important role in the cultural exchange between Tibet and the eastern regions in ancient times in Kongpo Gyangda County, and the Lieshan Ancient Tombs which reflect the funeral culture of ancient Tubo Kingdom in Langxian County.

Tourism Resources in Nyingchi - Charm of Nyingchi in Different Seasons

Compared to the scenic spots with high altitude in other regions of Tibet, the tourism in Nyingchi is less influenced or limited by the season and weather condition. In fact, Nyingchi Prefecture in Tibet is quite suitable for tourism all year around and tourists here could enjoy a different charming Nyingchi. In spring, tourists here will have the chance to appreciate the gorgeous azalea flowers on Segyira Mountain in Nyingchi. In summer, tourists could enjoy the natural scenery of mirror-like Baksumtso Lake. In autumn, tourists would be impressed by the colorful picturesque Lulang Forest Sea. In winter, the breathtaking Midui Glacier will make tourists here be reluctant to leave.
