Tibet Nyingchi Airport Introduction

As the 3rd airport of Tibet, Nyingchi Milin Airport was constructed in October, 2003 and completed at the end of 2005. It is one of the key project of Tibet.

Nyingchi Milin Airport is situated in Yarlung Zangbo River Valley of Milin County about 50 kilometers away from Bayi town of Nyingchi. It is about 2949 meters high lower than Gonggar Airport and Bangda Airport in Qamdo.

The level of flight area of airport is 4C and the runway is 60m in width and 3000m in length. There are 2 gate positions. The flight is flying through the narrow valley which the narrowest area is only 4 kilometers. In addition, as the lowest clouds and changeable weather, only 100 days are available to fly in a year. As of now there are three domestic destinations of Nyingchi Milin Airport, Chengdu, Chongqing and Lhasa.

Tibet Nyingchi Airport - Navigation Aid

To protect the flight environment in the valley, the navigation station is set at every airline crossing. At the same time, the radar is also installed in the airport to monitor the wind speed and wind direction, which is only available in Nyingchi Airport and Jiuzhaigou Airport.

Nyingchi Profecture is located in Southeastern Tibet, which has frequent lightning disaster. In a year, the times of the thunderstorm are more than 48 days. Therefore the lightning protection facilities are set around the airport.
