What is the Essence of Yungbu Lakhang

Where is Yungbu Lakhang

Yungbu Lakhang is situated about 5 kilometers far from the southeastern Naidong County of Shannan Prefecture. It is 3740 meters high above the sea level and 11 kilometers far from Tsedang County, the central city of Shannan Prefecture. The appearance of Yungbu Lakhang shapes like a blockhouse standing on the top of the mountain. I am sure you can see it from the distance. Yungbu literally means the female deer in Tibetan language and Lakhang means the holy palace in Tibetan language, too. There is a little spring about 400 meters northeast far from Tashi Chiri Mountain, which was said to be the sacred spring. The water is said to be helpful to the illness. What is the History of Yungbu Lakhang

As you may know, Yungbu Lakhang is the first palace of Tibet but also the palace for the first Tibetan Zampo. It has already more than 2000 years history. The statues of Songtsen Gampo and Princess Wencheng were worshiped in Yungbu Lakhang. Originally it was not very big, but it was expanded during the time of Songtsen Gampo. Later on it became the place where he lived with Pirncess Wencheng.

What is in Yungbu Lakhang

The statue of Sakyamuni was worshiped in Yungbu Lakhang. And also, there are many precious and valuable murals on the wall. The first palace, the first Tibetan Zampo, and the first cultivated land and so on were originally recorded on the murals. Hence, when you walk inside the Yungbu Lakhang, you will learn the history and story of this historical land.

In AD 7 the century, the capital of Tibet was moved to Lhasa City by Songtsen Gampo.Yungbu Lakhang was gradually became a Buddhist hall afterwards. The first floor was used for the statue preservation of Tibetan Zampo's. The statues of Songtsen Gampo and Nyechi Zampo were worshiped from the left to the right. The Buddha statue was between them. The second floor was a beautiful and exquisite scripture hall. The statue of Sakyamuni and Avalokitesvara were preserved there.
