Travel to Tibet in March - Transportation to Tibet

Mostly, Tibet gets warmer and warmer with the coming of March. People working in Lhasa would back to Lhasa by air or by train continuously in March. Compared to January and February, the passengers on both the Tibet trains and flights are much more in March. It is reported that there is rare discount in the flight tickets in March. The flights to Lhasa from some popular entrance cities, such as Chongqing, Chengdu and Beijing are in large demand.

Except for the ordinary flights to Lhasa from different domestic cities, the flights to Nyingchi from Chongqing and Chengdu are also in large demand. A large number of visitors have strong interest in the peach blossom view in the villages in Nyingchi. It should be noted that the annual Nyingchi Peach Blossom Festival would be celebrated between late March and early April. There is less demand in the flights out of Tibet compared to the flights entering into Tibet.

Be frankly, tourists could book the Tibet train tickets online easily in January and February, but it would be quite difficult to get a train ticket to Tibet in March. According to the current train ticket policy released by the Ministry of Railways, the Tibet train tickets would be on sale on the official website 18 days in advance. Tourists are required to provide the scanned copy of the Tibet Travel Permit while boarding on the train to Tibet. For tourists entering into Tibet by air, it is necessary to provide the original copy of the Tibet Travel Permit.

Tourists planning to travel to Tibet should note that Tibet Tourism Bureau would not accept foreign tourists' Tibet Travel Application after February 20th and would not restart to accept the application until March 28th, which means Tibet is completely closed to foreign tourists throughout March every year. So tourists planning to travel to Tibet in March or early April are not suggested to book any train tickets or air tickets to Tibet before you get accurate information regarding the Tibet Travel Permit application so as to avoid unnecessary lost.

Generally, Tibet will reopen to non-Chinese visitors from different corners of the world on April 1st. According to the local policy, travel agencies are required to submit visitors' Tibet Travel Permit application documents to Tibet Tourism Bureau at least 15 days in advance.
