There are three means of transportation to choose to Tibet - taking a plane, train or bus.
Non-stop flights to Lhasa are from Chengdu, Chongqing, Xian, and Beijing. There are more flights from Chengdu to Lhasa. Everyday there are two or three scheduled flights. There are flights on Wednesday and Monday from Xian to Lhasa, on Tuesday and Friday from Chongqing to Lhasa, on Tuesday and Saturday from Katmandu to Lhasa. There are buses from Lhasa Gonggar Airport Lhasa city everyday.
Qinghai-Tibet railway is from Golmud of Qinghai to Lhasa of Tibet, which passes Naij Tal, Wudaoliang, Yanshiping, then climbs over Tangula Shan, Amdo, Nagchu, Damxung and Yangpachen. The overall length of the railway is 1956 kilometers, of which from Xining to Golmud is 814 kilometers. From Golmud to Lhasa is 1142 kilometers. Facing many engineering obstacles like frozen earth, chillness, oxygen deficiency and ecological fragility, China has overcome all the difficulties and completed the great engineer.
There are five highways for entering into Tibet. The first one is Qinghai-Tibet highway. Qinghai-Tibet highway is from Xining, via Golmud, finally reaches Lhasa. The road is paved by asphalt. The road condition is good for driving. Alongside this route, you can appreciate beautiful sceneries like Qinghai Lake, the largest salt water lake, the Kunlun Mountains, Tuotuo River, Tanggula Mountain, North Tibet Grassland and Yampachen.
Another highway to Tibet is Sichuan-Tibet highway. The altitude difference alongside the route is big. Tourists may experience four seasons’ weather in the same day. It may be snow on the mountain but fine at the foot of the mountain. Most of the roads are leaned by the mountains. The road is steep and it is easy to get collapse in the rainy season. So if you choose this route to entering into Tibet. It is better for you do not arrange your schedule urgently. Your itinerary may be delayed when the road is blocked.
Other three routes are respectively from Shimonoseki of Yunnan to Lhasa, from Karghalik to Lhasa and from Katmandu to Lhasa.
