Tips of Dealing with the Altitude Sickness during the Lhasa Tours

With the opening of the Qinghai-Tibet Railway, Tibet keeps attracting a large quantity of tourists, especially in the high seasons of Tibet tour. Before enter into Tibet, tourists would be worried about the high altitude on Tibet Plateau and the possible altitude sickness during the Lhasa tours.

Before the Lhasa Tours

There are always a certain number of tourists would visit the local hospitals in Lhasa for severe altitude sickness symptoms when they firstly arrive in Lhasa. The doctors hold that tourists should make a good preparation before enter into Tibet and arrange your schedule reasonably after you arrive in Lhasa. Suitable measures would be helpful to prevent altitude sickness.

The doctors said that the most common symptoms of altitude sickness are choking sensation in chest, headache, vomiting and be short of breath. There are more than 5000 tourists enter into Lhasa for Lhasa tours in the peak season of Tibet tour according to statistics. It is reported that nearly 30 percent of tourists would have various degrees of altitude sickness.

The experienced doctors highly recommend tourists to take a good rest before and during the first period of the Lhasa tours. You are not advised to do some tiring activities if you are not feeling so good. You should do everything slowly so as to keep your energy. Besides, tourists are also advised to take some medicines which could prevent the altitude sickness 15 days before your trip, such as the most commonly used Rhodiola rosea.

During the Lhasa Tours

In addition, tourists should arrange your tour schedule according to your own physical condition. Tourists are not advised to make your trip toward some high altitude places before you are adapted to the plateau environment during the Lhasa tours. It might cause severe acute plateau encephaledema or pulmonary edema.

There is a big temperature difference between day and night in Tibet. Tourists should keep warm and protect you from the cold during the Lhasa tours. You should go to see the doctor as soon as possible if you catch a cold. The doctors also advised tourists not to be over worried about the possible altitude sickness. A good psychological state will help you to anti the altitude sickness.
