When joining Tibet group tours, tourists always want to do some shopping in Tibet and purchase some Tibetan specialties.

Traditional Handicrafts

There are many characteristic handicrafts in Tibet. Such as carpet of Lhasa and Shigatse, Tibetan carpet of Gyantse County, Tibet wool and apron in Lhasa and TseDang, Tibetan boots in Qamdo Prefecture, gold and silver ornaments, copper and iron wares, Tibetan clothes, potteries, bowels in Shannan, etc.

Tibetan Food

Barley Wine: it is composed of butter, milk, brick tea and egg.
Tsampa: it is made up of fried noodle and barley wine.

Famous and precious medicinal materials

There are precious medicinal materials in Tibet like bear gall, musk, Chinese caterpillar fungus, ginseng fruit, gastrodia elata, Saussurea involucrate, etc.

Jewelry

You can buy jewelries in the Barkhor Street. There is much jewelry in Tibet. Necklace, bracelet, earrings and waistband are seen everywhere in the shopping market in Barkhor Street. Some ornaments may seem rough and big, but they are special.

Tibetan Knife

Tibetan knife is a must for Tibetans. It can be used to cut meats, protect themselves and also an adornment. Men’s Tibetan knife is rough and sharp, while women’s is delicate. You can buy one in a shop easily. The most famous knives are Kongpo knife and Lha-rtse knife. Silver ornament knives are exquisite with careful carving.

Thangka

Thangka is a kind of scroll painting of special Tibetan style which is painted or embroidered on the silk. The themes and contents of Thangka involved in history, culture and society. It is praised as the encyclopedia by Tibetan people. Most of the Thangkas handed from ancient times were works of Tibetan Buddhism or Bon.

Prayer wheel

Prayer wheel is one of the most symbolic things in Tibet with a Buddhism-based civilization. Tourists can often see people with a prayer wheel in hands as most Tibetans are devout Buddhism followers. Many tourists would like to purchase a prayer wheel as a souvenir and a witness of having come to Tibet.
