Tibetan people keep a living habit and custom of the nomads. In order to have a better understanding and a better travel experience when taking a Tibet group tour, it is necessary to get some knowledge of the Tibetan etiquettes.

Greetings

When there come the guests, all the family members need to go out to greet them with enthusiasm. If there are dogs before the doors or tents, the hosts will keep the dogs on a leash. When greeting guest who walks, the young boys and girls need to take the luggage of the guests. If the guests are riding a house, the boys and girls need to take the leading rope of the horse. After entering the room, the old members of the hosts need to accompany the guests. Others need to arrange things for the horse, such as make water and food for it, take off the saddle. If the guests do not stay overnight, it is no need to take off the saddle, but the bellyband should be loosed.

Etiquettes in the Room

When entering the room or the tent, the head of the family will accompany you walking in the front. Do not walk ahead of the head of the family. And remember not to step on the threshold when entering the tent, house, or temple. At normal circumstances, guests need to sit at the seats upper right. The seats in the bottom right are arranged for men and the left seats are arranged for women. People could not seat at will. When there are guests in the house, the family members are not allowed to move around before the guests or quarrel before them. When the family members need to wash something or move staffs in the house, they should make sure not to make a sound. When guests are talking, family members could not get a word in. after the guests seat well, the housewife send the ZanBa tea to the male host. Then the male host sends it to the guests respectfully with both hands. When deliver the knife, the point of the knife could not point to the guests. They will be blamed if behave impolite.
