The Relationship of Pakhor Monastery and Tibet Buddhist Sects

Due to the relationship of Palkor Monastery and three Buddhist sects, Palkhor Monastery owns high respect by local Tibetans. It is a little strange but really amazing for most Buddhists and other beleivers that three different Buddhist sects are worshiped in one monastery at the same time. But as you may know, they actually believed by Palkhor Monastery successively in different times. They found the way to balance the coexist for all of them after passed many generations and they finally succeeded.

The History of Tibet Buddhist Sects of Palhor Monastery

Generally speaking, Palkhor Monastery wasbuilt and originally owned by Sakya Sect. Later on, it was also owned by Kargyu Sect and Gelug Sect. The three Buddhist sects were fight but finally found the balance the coexist together. Hence, the wonderful great halls around Palkhor Monastery as you may see were respectively owned and believed by Sakya Sect, Kargyu Sect and Gelug Sect. Seven of them were respected by Gelug Sect. Meanwhile, Palkhor Monastery was managed together by the abbots of three Buddhist Sects.

Sakya Sect History of Palkhor Monastery

The history of Sakya Sect of Palkhor Monastery was tightly related to the government of Yuan Dynasty. You may date back to the old times and figured out the support to Tibet religions by the central government.

Sakya Sect was established by the old Tibetan nobles - Kunba Boqye in AD 11th Century and has been successfully succeeded till now. Because the monastery was built in Sakya Area so that it has been called Sakya Monastery. Also, as you may find that there are many different colors on the walls of Palkhor Monastery, so that it is also called "the colorful sect".

Kunba Boqye was the great official of Zampo - Chisong Detsen. He found Sakya Monastery in AD 1073. He was not only the abbot of Sakya Monastery but also well known in Tibetan governemnt. Hence, there was a long tight relationship between Sakya Sect and the governement. After successded by the 5th abbot of Sakya Sect - Basipa, he was awarded as the great master of Sakya Sect by Kublai, the fifth emperor of the Yuan Dynasty in AD 1260. Later on, he was highly praised as the great imperial master again. After he died, the relationship was continued for a long time till Yuan Dynasty perished.

Kargyu Sect History of Palkhor Monastery

Kagyu Sect was also awarded by the central government of Yuan Dynasty and Ming Dynasty. During a long time, Kargyu Sect developed fast and became one of the famous Buddhist sect taking place of Sakya Sect. During Ming Dynasty, eight of great Buddhist masters were conferred and they were respectively representative for the Kargyu Sect, Sakya Sect and Gelug Sect. At that time, the Living Buddha of Tsupu Monastery of Kargyu Sect was appointed as the hierarch of other 7 Buddhist masters.

Gelug Sect History of Palkhor Monastery

Gelug Sect was founded the latest by Tsongkhapa, the very well known great master of Tibet Buddhism. He advocated the serious Buddhist commandments and strictly asked his disciples to follow. Gradually, Gelug Sect was famous for the fame of rigorous regulations.
