Tibet is one of the places of China which famous for a lot of festivals. After the first festival of Tibet every year, different religious festivals and entertainment festivals are held one after the other. Most of the tourists are interested in Tibetan festivals very much during Tibet tour such as Shoton Festival, Horse Racing Festival and Bathing Festival, etc.
According to the records, there are hundreds of festivals held in Tibet, even some of them are held for 10 days. In general, Tibetan people will hold the different festival ceremonies in different areas of Tibet every few days. Tibetan festivals are held to send best wishes to each other and show the wonderful Tibetan culture.
As a matter of fact, most of the aspects of Tibetan people's daily life are inflected by the Tibetan festivals such as their mind, production, society, history, economy, religion, morality, culture, and art, etc. Tibet is proud of its unique attractive features.
Tibetan New Year's festival is coming on January, 1st every year. It is the first festival held in Tibet every year. At the end of December last year, everything is arranged well in advance such as worship tribute and food, etc. With the dawn coming on January, 1st, Tibetan people will go out home early and happily send best wishes to each other, "Tashi Delek". They wear new clothes and dress colorfully, singing and dancing in next few days. Some of them have a dinner at friend's house, some of them just get together on the ground, and some just pray to Buddha together in the monastery.
It is the largest religious festival of Tibet, founded by the founder of Gelug Sect - Tsongkapa Master. During the ceremony time, about 20000 people from Tibet and other cities of China will pray to Sakyamuni Buddha Statue in Jokhang Temple.
It is happily held on January 15th according to Tibetan calendar in general, with crowded lamas and folk artists. Beautiful butter flower lights will be showed everywhere.
According to the traditions, Shoton Festival will be held on Jul. 1st every year. People will visit their relatives who are the lamas of the monastery during the festival. It lasts few days, about 7 days. In 2013, Shoton Festival is held from August 6th. The largest Buddhist exhibition will be held in Drepung Monastery on the first day of Shoton Festival.
