The History of King Gesar

Many people are attracted by many mysterious Tibetan legends and stories during Tibet tour. One of the popular stories is called the King Gesar. Please read the first part: The Story of King Gesar.

Dumu was very happy with his husband in first few years because they were highly respected by their people. Her beauty and kindness were praised by people, too. Dumu often helped poor children and olds. After she was pregnant, she felt so happy that she was supposed to be the happiest woman of the world.

If she born a son, the son will throne taking the place of the brother of the leader. Hence, something bad happened to her in next few years. On a fine day with colorful clouds in the sky, Dumu born a son who was named Dunba Gyangu by his father - the leader of the tribe. The leader as very excited because Dunba Gyangu was the only son of his. When this little boy was 2 years old, a terrible pestilence happened in this tribe. Many people died. In the meanwhile, the brother of the tribe leader spread the rumor that the horrible pestilence was actually caused by Dumu and her son. Some people believed it. Under the pressure of the public opinion, Dumu and the little son were driven out from the tribe, even though the leader was very sad. Little Dunba Gyangu spend many hard years with his mother then.

When Dunba Gyandu was 12 years old, he came to a village with his mom. He found that the villagers were encroached by a devil dragon there. People there lived a very hard life. He decided to help the villagers. He fight with the devil dragon and beat it successfully. Afterwards, he distributed the golds and treasures which were captured from the devil dragon's hole to the villagers. Dunba Gyangu won a lot of praises from the people who were saved by him. Finally, people were surprised that he was the prince of this tribe. They presented many food to him.

At the same time, the leader of this tribe passed away. He did not have any sons to throne after Dunba Gyangu was driven out with his mom. Therefore, people decided to inthrone a new leader who would win other competitor in the horse racing. Generally speaking, every Tibetans are good at the horse riding on the plateau. Hence, the brother of the leader thought that he would win the competition beyond doubt because he had collected a very good horse in advance. In the first few days, he won all the competitions. In the meanwhile, Dunba Gyangu with his mom was on the way to the race course after the encouragement by the villagers.With the help of the steward who they met in the midway he found a very strong handsome horse in the sacred mountain.

At the end of the match, Dunba Gyangu arrived. He challenged the brother of the leader and finally beat him. Afterwards, a grand ceremony was held to memory the victory of this moment for him. When Dunba Gyangu throned, he was called the King Gesar.
