Shigatse Tour – Transportation to Shigatse

Presently, the Heping (Peace) Airport in Shigatse is closed. So, travelers who have Shigatse tour have to go to Shigatse from Lhasa Gonggar Airport which is about 400 kilometers away from Shigatse. There are scheduled buses from Gonggar Airport to Shigatse directly. The whole journey from airport to Shigatse is about 4 hours, and the cost is about 150 CNY per person. At the same time, travelers also can first take airport bus to Lhasa, and take buses from Lhasa to Shigatse at the Bus Station at Beijing Eastern Road. The total fare from airport to Lhasa and from Lhasa to Shigatse is about 90 CNY.

Highway

Shigatse is the transportation center of Tibet. The highway in Shigatse leads to all directions. In Shigatse, the 318 National Highway, Shigatse-Yadong Highway, Lhasa-Pulan Highway, China and Nepal Friendship Highway go through the whole Shigatse.

The Bus Station of Shigatse is located at Liberation Road C, diagonally opposite to Shanghai Square. There are scheduled buses between Lhasa and Shigatse everyday. In general, the scheduled buses from Shigatse to Lhasa will depart every half of an hour. The price of bus ticket is about 65 CNY per person. In addition, there are long-distance buses from Shigatse to other counties of Tibet, including Yadong, Gyantse, Lhatze, Sakya, etc.

Transportation from Shigatse to Gyantse

Outside the Bus Station at the Liberation Road C in Shigatse, there are mini buses from Shigatse to Gyantse. The whole journey from Shigatse to Gyantse is 77 kilometers, and it takes about 2 hours. The price of bus ticket is 12 CNY per person. At the big crossroad of Gyantse, there are mini buses with variable interval to Shigatse everyday.

Transportation from Shigatse to Sakya

At Shigatse Bus Station, there is scheduled bus from Shigatse to Sakya from 7:30 to 8:00 in the morning. The whole journey is about 5 hours, and the price of bus ticket is 27 CNY. In the second day, the scheduled bus will depart Sakya in front of Sakya Guesthouse.

Transportation from Shigatse to Tingri

There is no scheduled bus from Shigatse to New Tingri directly. Travelers can first take mini buses from Shigatse to Lhatse, and take bus from Lhatse to New Tingri. The fare is about 40 CNY per person. Furthermore, there is no scheduled bus from New Tingri to Rongbuk Monastery or Mt. Everest Base Camp. And it is very hard to find vehicle in New Tingri. Consequently, travelers who want to visit Rongbuk Monastery and Mt. Everest Base Camp in Shigatse tour are suggested to charter car in Lhasa or Shigatse.

Transportation from Shigatse to Lhatse

On west of Tashilhunpo Monastery in Shigatse, there are mini buses to Lhatse in every morning. It will depart once it is full. The fare is 30 CNY.

Transportation from Shigatse to Zham Port

There is no fixed time about the scheduled bus from Shigatse to Zham Port. Consequently, travelers need to figure out the departure time in advance. In general, the scheduled bus from Shigatse to Zham Port will depart at 9:00 in the morning. The whole journey is about two days. On the way, travelers need to spend one night at Tingri. The fare is about 70 CNY. Zham Port is about 8 kilometers away from the Friendship Bridge of China and Nepal. Travelers who want to go to visit Nepal after Tibet tour can leave Tibet from Zham Port.
