1.Why foreigners need to apply for the Tibet Entry Permit 2013?

For the protection and preservation of the precious historical relics, special folk customs and fragile ecological environment on Tibet Plateau, all the foreigners planning a Tibet tour are required to apply for the Tibet Entry Permit approved by Tibet Tourism Bureau. This rule also takes the limited transportation to Tibet and the finite capacity in Tibet into the consideration. Besides, Tibet Tourism Bureau also rules the foreign diplomats or journalists can't enter into Tibet as tourists.

2.Who needs to apply for the Tibet Entry Permit 2013?

Tourists without a Chinese Identity Card or not holding a Chinese Passport are required to apply for the Tibet Entry Permit (also noted as Tibet Travel Permit) before enter into Tibet, including tourists from Taiwan, China. Overseas Chinese are also required to apply for the Tibet Entry Permit in advance if you are not holding a Chinese Passport. It should be noted that tourists from Hong Kong and Macao are not required to apply for the Tibet Entry Permit if you are holding the Special Administrative Region Passport and the Home-visit Permit.

3.How to apply for the China Visa 2013?

First, foreign tourists planning a Tibet tour should apply for the China Visa (L= tourism visa) from the Chinese Embassy in their own countries. The scanned copy of the China Visa is required while the application of the Tibet Entry Permit. Please note that tourists making a Tibet tour from Kathmandu are required to apply for the China Visa from the Chinese Embassy in Kathmandu. China Visa approved by the Chinese Embassy in other countries would be regarded as invalid whenever you take Kathmandu as the entry city of your Tibet tour.

4.What documents are required for the application of Tibet Entry Permit 2013?

The scanned copy of your Passport and China Visa are required documents for the application of the Tibet Entry Permit. In addition, personal information, including your full name, gender, age, and occupation are also required. The responsible travel agency would also hand in your brief Tibet tour schedule to the Tibet Tourism Bureau while submitting your necessary documents.

5.How long it takes to get the Tibet Entry Permit 2013?

Tibet Tourism Bureau needs 2-4 working days to examine your application documents. Generally, Tibet Tour would submit tourists' documents to the Document Office 15 work days in advance of the departure date since we need to deal with the hotel reservation and tickets booking matters for tourists previously. Mostly, we will send the Tibet Entry Permit to your hotel in the entry city of your Tibet tour. It is impossible to board on the train or the flight to Tibet without the Tibet Entry Permit.

6.Can foreigners make a self-help tour in Tibet with a Tibet Entry Permit 2013?

All the foreign tourists are required to travel to Tibet in group accompanied with a guide, according to the rules of Tibet Tourism Bureau. Tibetan is a special ethnic group with their own religion, tradition and taboos. The guide could always remind tourists to respect the local traditions and never violate their taboos.
