Lalu Wet Land

Well known as the largest and the best wet land of China, Lalu Wet Land brings a lot of benefits to Lhasa City. Therefore, there are many serious of measures to protect Lalu Wet Land. If you are interested in doing some volunteering work, you will have a chance to visit Lalu Wet Land during Tibet tour.

There was a man named Chegang. He is 56 years old, worked as the professional photographer. Also, he devotes himself to protecting the amazing natural environment around Lalu Wet Land. Since he came to Lhasa in 1980, he never leaves this holy land. He always tells people that he deeply love this land ever and forever. He says, Tibet is a true gift of the Buddha and really proud of the incomparable natural scenery, profound history, age-old legends and kind-hearted and pure local Tibetans. It will be the sweet home for every one who comes here.

After 30 years passed, he found there is huge change in Lalu Wet land since a set of measures have be taken in recent years.

In May, 1999, Lalu Wet Land was approved by the district-level Natural Reserve Area. In 2000, the administrative station has been established to protect the nature of Lalu Wet Land. In 2005, Lalu Wet Land has been approved as the National Natural Reserve Area. In 2011, the administrative department has been officially established.

Such those serious of measures taken in recent years, the Dredging, quarrying, mowing, and graze, etc, are all prohibited to do around Lalu Wet Land. In the meanwhile, due to confirm the sustainable development of Lalu Wet Land, a set of general planning has been established, too.

As of now, Lalu Wet Land has been highly praised as the highest and largest natural wet land of the world. It is also the only one inland wet land of China. There are more than 78,800 ton of carbon dioxide have been absorbed every year through photosynthesis in Lalu Wet Land, and also, about 53700 ton of oxygen could be produced by Lalu Wet Land, too. Hence, Lalu Wet Land is also renowned as the names of Natural Oxygen Bar and the lungs of Lhasa City.

Chegang said, he witnessed the change of Lalu Wet Land and felt happy about that. Sometimes he found that there were many volunteers no matter the color of their skin, they cleared the pollution of Lalu Wet Land. Hence, he would like to invite more and more people to come and enjoy the amazing natural scenery together.
