Notice for Mt. Everest Tour – Brief Introduction of Mt. Everest Natural Reserve

Noted as the highest mountain above the sea level, Mt. Everest is widely regarded as an unconquerable legend for human beings in a pretty long time in the past though a lot of mountaineers have reached to the top of Mt. Everest in recent years. Though only a small number of people in the world could climb up to the top of Mt. Everest, a large number of visitors from different corners of the world would pay a visit to Mt. Everest Base Camp during their Tibet tour so as to take a close look of the highest mountain in the world.

Mt. Everest is not only the highest peak of the magnificent Himalayas, but also the highest point around the world. The Xegar Town Seat by State Highway G318 is the nearest town to Mt. Everest Base Camp. Xegar is only about 100 kilometers away from the Base Camp, but the road condition is very poor. The wash board style road requires tourists to rent a good conditioned 4WD rather than the large tourist bus. In winter, the road to Mt. Everest Base Camp is frequently blocked by the heavy snow. There is also a trekking route to the Base Camp from Xegar. It takes about 3 days to finish this trekking tour. Few Tibetan villages along this route could provide simple food and boiled water for visitors. Tourists planning to trek to Mt. Everest Base Camp are strongly suggested to avoid the cold seasons. A warm jacket and suitable sleeping bag should be prepared before heading to the Base Camp even in the middle summer. The temperature difference between day and night might even be larger than 15 Celsius at the Base Camp.

There is sufficient sunshine in Shigatse Prefecture all year around. Both the climate and tourism service facilities here are much better than Ngari Plateau. Tourists come to Shigatse Prefecture in different seasons could always enjoys some impressive landscapes. For tourists planning to pay a visit to Mt. Everest Base Camp, the best sight seeing season is between April and May, as well as September and October. The period between October and April is too cold for tourists come here from the plain areas. It is not so cold between July and August, but the visibility in this period is relatively lower due to the frequent rain.
