Ngari is located in west of Tibet. The main roads to Ngari are Xin-Tibet highway (Xinjiang-Tibet), Guoshi Highway, Anshi Highway, and Lapu Highway. But the traffic is often blocked due to the terrible natural weather and environment. Hence the best time to travel to Ngari is from July to August every year during Tibet adventure tour. The climate in other months is not as good as in these two months.
The elevation of Ngari is very high that with little oxygen in the air. If it is not good with your heart and lung, you'd better take a physical examination before you visit Ngari Prefecture.
Most of people would have a light highland sickness when firstly enter into Ngari Prefecture. But they usually acclimatize the environment very soon after a rest.
However we kindly suggest our guests to keep a optimistic mind of traveling in Tibet, or you can buy some oxygen bags, Rhodiola rosea (a kind of medicine to prevent highland sickness), and American ginseng oral liquid, etc. Anyway, better safe than sorry.
The mean annual temperature is about 18-20 ? in Ngari Prefecture, and the daily mean temperature changes a lot in day and night. For example, the temperature could be increase over 10 ? in August in a highland exceed 5000m high, but in night the temperature could decrease to -0?.
The annual precipitation in Ngari Prefecture is not much, which mainly rains from May to September.
