Ngari Tour – Transportation to Ngari

Now, there is no flight and train to Ngari directly. In general, travelers would like to rent vehicle from Yechang, Xijiang or Lhasa to Ngari.

Car Rental

When have Ngari tour, the best choice is car rental. You are suggested to rent car in Lhasa or Shigatse. In order to get the most reasonable price, you are suggested to consult more agencies of car rental. In the season of Ngari tour, the rental of Land Cruiser is from 13000 CNY to 15000 CNY.

If you have Ngari tour alone, you are suggested to find companions advance. It is very hard to find companions to have Ngari tour with you in Lhasa. But it is very easy to find companions to visit Mt. Everest, Nyingchi, Lake Namtso and Shannan.

If there are three or four persons in your group, you are kindly suggested to rent a Land Cruiser and take two small oil drums with you.

In general, many drivers will not go the South Way to Ngari alone for fear of no one to claim if the car trapped. In addition, there is no petrol filling station for a long distance on this way. Consequently, many travelers would like to rent a truck to transport materials and petrol.

Thumb a lift

If you have enough time in your Ngari tour, you also can thumb lift. But you are suggested to consult Ngari Office in Lhasa in advance. If you want to thumb lift on the way, you need to go to Shigatse or Lhatze first. There are many vehicles to Ngari and Nepal will pass by Lhatze.

It is not very easy to find vehicles to Ngari. Even in high season of Ngari tour, there are only dozen of vehicles to Ngari on South Line. On North Line, there are many trucks from Lhasa to Shiquanhe. It may be easier to thumb a lift there.

Scheduled Bus

There is long distance bus from Lhasa to Ngari. You can buy bus ticket in Bus Station. The bus will depart every two days in low season and every each day in high season. The prices of bus ticket are 750 CNY, 700 CNY and 650 CNY. The whole journey is over two days. You are kindly suggested to figure out the departure time in advance.

Ngari Tour – Transportation in Ngari

In Shiquanhe Town, there is no bicycle rental service. In Shiquanhe, the most convenient transportation is taxi.

Transportation between Shiquanhe and Pulan

There is scheduled bus between Shiquanhe and Pulan. It will depart every morning. The whole journey is about six to eight hours. The price of bus ticket is about 180 CNY. You can get on bus at Bus Station.

Transportation between Shiquanhe and Zhada

The cost of rental car from Shiquanhe to Zhada is about 2000 CNY to 3000 CNY. The whole journey to and from is about 12 hours.

In Shiquanhe, there is scheduled bus to Zhada. It will depart in noon. But it may be canceled if there are few passengers. The price of bus ticket is about 220 CNY to 260 CNY.
