Ngari Tour – Best Season of Photographing Mt. Kailash

The period from April to October in each year is the season with most pilgrims at Mt. Kailash, and the climate in this season is relatively more comfortable. In other periods, the area around Mt. Kailash will be frozen up by snow and ice. The Maryola Mountain Pass may be impassable. Although weather in summer is pleasant, road to Mt. Kailash is very muddy. The vehicle may be trapped by bad road. Furthermore, the ice and snow on Mt. Kailash may melt for the increasing temperature. The amount of snow on Mt. Kailash is very small. You may only see a small amount of snow on the peak. The area under the peak may be grey-and-black rock. In addition, summer is rain season of Tibet. The snow covered peak may hide in clouds. It is very hard to enjoy the real scene of Mt. Kailash. Consequently, the best season of photographing Mt. Kailash is spring and autumn. In these months, the success rate of photographing Mt. Kailash is relatively high, and it is easier to get suitable effect of light and shadow.

In addition, there is a grand ceremony of changing prayer flags at Mt. Kailash on April 15th in Tibetan Calendar. This day is also named "Assembly Day of Ngari". It is the most important festival in Tarchen Village which is located at the mountain foot of Mt. Kailash. The scene of the festival is very hilarious.

Ngari Tour – Best Location of Photographing Mt. Kailash

The best locations of photographing Mt. Kailash include the section of National Highway No.219 near to Mt. Kailash, Double Legs Pagoda and Prayer Flags Square, Zhuomala Mountain pass, the way from Lake Manasarovar to Tarchen, Bagar Grassland, Laqu River Valley, etc.

If you spend night in Tarchen, you are suggested to find nearby good locations. In the village of Tarchen, you only can see the peak of Mt. Kailash. Hence, you may find suitable location after walking for a distance. For example, you may photograph beautiful Mt. Kailash at the Laqu River Valley which is about 8 kilometers away from Tarchen. In addition, you also can photograph beautiful images of Mt. Kailash on circumambulation way.
