Must-do Things for Travel to Tibet in Early 2014

Update: Jan. 23rd, 2014

Lhasa River View

Enjoy the warm sunshine on the bank of Lhasa River

The bank of Lhasa River is also a good place for enjoying the warm sunshine in winter. A large number of visitors would like to choose a hotel or guesthouse on the Xianzu Island instead of the hotels in the down town of Lhasa City. Play on the music, sitting on the balcony with a cup of Tibetan butter oil tea when the first ray of the sunlight shines on the whole world. Either the warm sunlight or the fresh air will make your days in Tibet more beautiful and unforgettable.

Watch the devout pilgrims on Jokhang Temple Square

Except for the bank of Lhasa River, Jokhang Temple in the down town of Lhasa City is also a good place for enjoying the sunshine. Tourists who've been to Jokhang Temple Square might have found that it is crowded with tourists and pilgrims from the early morning to the deep night. The devout Tibetan pilgrims performing body-length prostration always win the most attraction from the visitors here for sightseeing. At the same time, the tourists are always touched by their pure and reverent mind.

Experience the Tibetan New Year Festival atmosphere

Tibetan New Year is one of the most important traditional festivals on Tibet Plateau. Tourists traveling to Tibet in early 2014 will have the chance to witness and take part in the celebration of this grand festival. A series of religious activities will be taken into the celebration of the Tibetan New Year. Local Tibetans would decorate their houses with some folk items, such as the Tibetan prayer flags and Thangka. In addition, the monasteries would also hold some religious activities for worshipping the Buddha. The Tibetan singing & dancing performance is also a highlight for tourists making a Tibetan New Year Festival tour.

Explore the traditional Tibetan style architectures

Except for its natural scenery and Buddhism Culture, Tibet is also quite noted for its traditional Tibetan style architectures. Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple, Palkhor Monastery, Norbu Lingka, Tashilhunpo Monastery and some other historical sites always make visitors be reluctant to leave with their special architectural art. Compared to the summer season, the number of visitors in these historical sites is much less in the winter season, and visitors could better explore the details of the ancient architectures without any time restriction.

Appreciate the sunset & sunrise view at Namtso Lake

With important status in Tibetan Buddhism, Namtso Lake is widely noted as a holy lake with breathtaking sunset & sunrise view. Tourists visiting Lake Namtso in early 2014 will have the chance to witness the picturesque natural scenery composed of snow-covered mountains and iced-up lake which is not available in the other seasons. The guesthouses here provide simple accommodation for visitors willing to stay overnight here for the sunset and sunrise view. It is necessary to prepare warm clothes to cope with the low temperature in the night. It takes about 5 hours driving to get to Namtso Lake from Lhasa.
