Mt. Everest Tour – Brief Introduction of Rongbuk Monastery

Rongbuk Monastery is located on the top of Tara Mountain and is about 90 kilometers away from the county seat of Tingri County. It is a monastery highly respected by the followers of Nyingma Sect of Tibetan Buddhism. There are large number of devout pilgrimages would make a circumambulation around the monastery every year. There were 500 Buddhists in the monastery at its heyday and now there are only about 50 Buddhists in the monastery.

Rongbuk Monastery was firstly constructed in 1899 and experienced a large-scale reconstruction in 1983. The murals collected in the monastery are of rich historical value and enjoy high reputation among tourists. Tourists make a Mt. Everest Tour here could not only explore the Buddhism culture but also enjoy the landscape of Mt. Everest. It should be noted that Mt. Everest looks most amazing in the morning or at nightfall.

Rongbuk Monastery Guesthouse is near Rongbuk Monastery, the highest monastery above the sea level in Tibet and is about 20 kilometers away from the top of Mt. Everest. Tourists make a Mt. Everest tour could only choose to camp at Mt. Everest Base Camp or have a rest in Rongbuk Monastery Guesthouse.

There are 30 rooms with 3 - 6 beds in Rongbuk Monastery Guesthouse. It provides services for both the foreign tourists and domestic tourists. There are also restaurant and canteen. Though it is shabby and rude, tourists make a Mt. Everest Tour here could enjoy warm noodles, rice and vegetables here. Tourists should be ready to accept the relatively higher prices of the goods here since most of them are transported here from far away places.
