General Climate in Different Regions in Tibet – Lhasa City

Lhasa City is located in the northern side of Himalayas. It has a lot of sunny days and rains rarely due to the influence of the downdraft. The winter here would never be too cold while the summer here is always cool. It has been selected as one of the best domestic summer resorts. In fact, Lhasa enjoys a semi-arid plateau monsoon climate with a maximum climate of 29 Celsius and a minimum climate of -16.5 Celsius. The annual average temperature here is around 7.4 Celsius. The period between July and September is the rainy season of Lhasa City and the annual precipitation here is about 500 millimeters. Noted as a Sunshine City, Lhasa has an annual sunshine duration of more than 3000 hours.

General Climate in Different Regions in Tibet – Nagqu Prefecture

Ngaqu Prefecture enjoys a sub-frigid climate characterized by dry air and frequent gale. The oxygen content is relatively lower than that in Lhasa due to the high altitude. The annual average temperature in Ngaqu Prefecture is between -0.9 to -3.3 Celsius. The annual precipitation here is around 380 millimeters and the annual sunshine duration here is more than 2850 hours. The period between November and March is the dry windy season of Ngaqu Prefecture. The period between May and September is the best season for sightseeing in Ngaqu for the climate is relatively temperate in this period.

General Climate in Different Regions in Tibet – Shigatse Prefecture

Shigatse Prefecture enjoys a relatively mild climate. The developed tourism facilities in Shigatse made it a region suitable for sightseeing all year around. Tourists planning a Tibet tour to Shigatse should note that the period between November and March is not suitable for Mt. Everest sightseeing due to the severe cold climate. In addition the period between July and August is also not the best time to visit Mt. Everest for the weak visibility. It is said the period between April and June and the period between September and October are the best seasons to appreciate the amazing landscape of Mt. Everest.

General Climate in Different Regions in Tibet – Nyingchi Prefecture

Tourists making a Tibet tour to Nyingchi could always witness a quite different natural landscape due to the special climate here. Located in the river valley area in southeastern Tibet, Nyingchi enjoys a quite humid and pleasant climate. It has relatively warmer winter and cool summer. The average temperature in winter is always above 0 Celsius while the average temperature in summer is around 20 Celsius in Nyingchi.

General Climate in Different Regions in Tibet – Ngari Prefecture

The annual average temperature in Ngari is between 18 Celsius and 20 Celsius. Large temperature difference between day and night is the most obvious characteristics of Ngari climate. In the areas with an altitude of more than 5000 meters in Ngari Prefecture, the temperature would be above 10 Celsius in the daytime and drops below 0 Celsius in the night.

Shannan Prefecture enjoys a temperate semi-arid and semi-humid plateau monsoon climate. The annual average temperature here is around 5-8 Celsius. The average temperature is 2-12 Celsius in the coldest month while it is 10-18 Celsius in the warmest month in Shannan Prefecture. It is one of the warmest regions on Tibet Plateau.
