Tibet Welcomes Its Peak Tourism Season in 2012 with the Coming of Summer

Tibet welcomes its peak tourism season with the coming of summer. The famous cultural relics in Tibet, such as Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple and Namtso Lake are always crowded with tourists both at home and abroad. Tibet received more than 2.81 millions of tourists and achieved a total tourism revenue of 2.4 billion RMB in the first half of 2012 according to the statistics provided by Tibet Tourism Bureau.

According to the latest statistics data provided by Tibet Tourism Bureau, Tibet received 2.8178 millions of tourists between January and June. The accumulative total number of tourists increased 25.3 percent compared to that of the same period in 2011. Tibet also achieved total tourism revenue of 2.4 billion RMB, which increased 30.3 percent compared to that of the last year. Among the 2.8178 millions of tourists, 2.7854 millions of them are tourists at home and this number increased 27.3 percent compared to that of the same period in last year. The data also displays that Tibet received 32384 foreign tourists between January and June. The foreign tourists brought a foreign currency earning of 18.94 million dollars to Tibet Autonomous Region.

With the improvement of the transportation to Tibet, the number of tourists came to Tibet keeps increasing recent years. To attractive more tourists both at home and abroad, Tibet introduced the first altitude sickness insurance in May so as to ensure the health and safety of tourists planning to come to Tibet. The altitude sickness insurance is the first insurance aimed at reduces the concerns of tourists afraid of the possible altitude sickness on Tibet Plateau for its high altitude sickness and special natural environment.

The peak season of Tibet tourism would last from May 1st to October 31st every year according to the Tibet Tourism Bureau, and the low season of Tibet tourism is between November 1st and April 30th of the next year. The most solemn festival – Shoton Festival in 2012 would be celebrated on August 17th according to the Tibet festival calendar 2012, the number of tourists coming to Tibet would go to its peak. Tibet is working hard for receiving more than 10 millions of tourists and achieving a total tourism revenue of 12 billions RMB in 2012.
