The Environmental Quality of Namtso Lake Scenic Area Keeps Improving

It is reported that new problems were brought to the tourism environment due to the accumulation of the rubbish and wastes at Namtso Lake Scenic Area. With the rapid development of the tourism industry in Damgxung County, the number of tourists coming to Namtso Lake keeps increasing recent years. To improve the environmental sanitation of Namtso Lake Scenic Area, Damgxung County established the management committee to take charge of the environmental sanitation supervision and the education of the environmental awareness of the commercial tenants in the scenic area.

The Management Committee of Namtso Lake Scenic Area employed 14 sanitation workers to take care of the white trashes and household garbage by the lake and on Tashi Island. These wastes would be transported to the refuse deport in the county seat every day. Besides, the Management Committee also appointed workers to clean the environmental toilets in the scenic area and provide water and provide toilet paper for the tourists.

To enhance the environmental awareness of the tourists, the Management Committee of Namtso Lake Scenic Area also gives out the environmental trash bag and environmental protection brochure to the tourists at the ticket office. The management committee also adds explanation and notes in Tibetan, Chinese and English for all the billboards, road signs and name of hotels in the scenic area. On the base of the improving of the environmental quality at Namtso Lake Scenic Area, Damgxung County waived the charge of the public toilets on the way to Namtso Lake from Lhasa. The sanitary condition of the toilets at the ticket office of Yampachen Scenic Spot, Mt. Nyainqentanglha and Namtso Lake Scenic Area were greatly improved.

Namtso Lake Scenic Area is on the way to be a real state 5A standard scenic area according to the management committee. It will be improved to a world famous zoology tourism zone based on public sightseeing and well integrated the zoology experiencing, folk-custom experiencing, popularization of science and vacation. The construction of the sightseeing routes and rest pavilions at Namtso Lake Scenic Area will also be improved to meet the demand of tourists all around the world.

Namtso Lake is one of the three holy lakes in Tibet. It attracts a large number of tourists both at home and abroad for its picturesque natural landscape composed of blue sky, clean water, snow-capped mountains and endless grassland. It enjoys an elevation around 4700 meters which means tourists planning to visit here should make a good preparation to deal with the possible high altitude sickness in advance.
