The Air and Train Tickets to and from Tibet are in Short Supply with the Coming of the Peak Tourism Season

Great tension emerges in the transportation to and from Tibet with the coming of the peak tourism season. July and August are always the peak season of Tibet tour. The number of tourists enters into Tibet increases rapidly with the coming of July. The demand of the air tickets and train tickets to and Tibet are greatly exceeds the supply. In addition, the coming summer vacation also adds more burden to the transportation to and from Tibet.

According to the Tibet Tourism Bureau, the peak tourism season of Tibet would last from May 1st to October 31st every year. The number of tourists coming to Tibet would be relatively increased compared to that of the shoulder season or the low season. Tibet received 1.3611 million tourists in June and this number takes 48.3 percent of the total number of tourists in the first half of 2012.

The direct trains and flights between Lhasa and Chongqing, Chengdu, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Beijing are available. The train tickets to Chengdu, Chongqing and Beijing should be booked at least one week in advance according to a staff of Lhasa Railway Station. The attendance on the train of the hot routes reaches 100 percent since July 1st.

The air tickests to and from Tibet are also in short supply. It is reported that most of the air tickets to and from Tibet are full price tickets without any discount in July and August. Beijing, Chengdu and Shanghai are the hottest entrance cities for foreign tourists. Hence, some of the overseas tourists would like to enter or leave Tibet via Kathmandu. The direct flight between Lhasa and Kathmandu is the only international flight in Tibet Autonomous Region.

With the coming of the Shoton Festival and Nagqu Horse Racing Festival, there are more tourists planning to enter into Tibet in July and August. Shoton Festival is one of the most solemn festivals in Tibet festival calendar while Nagqu Horse Racing Festival is the most important festival for Tibetans in Northern Tibet Plateau. Both the tourists at home and abroad are pretty interested in the celebration ceremonies and the festival atmosphere.
